Early Developmental Habits
It is a well known fact that the habits that we develop early in life stay with us throughout our lives.
At Daily Mind, we understand that these effects can be beneficial or unhealthy, and as a result it is necessary that we pay attention to our kids in these early stages of their development in order to build a healthy lifestyle. One of the most important habits developed in infancy are the dietary habits. It influences the way your child takes up nutrients, and ultimately predicts how he or she would eventually develop.
For example, an infant shouldn’t have water before 6months and possessed milk before a year old. After a year, parents tend to be more open-minded and careless with what their children eat, and it is at this point that kids may develop an appetite for junk food which may go on to negatively affect their health in the future.
As you try to guide your kids towards healthier eating habits, it is important to remember that labelling a certain group of food as harmful or forbidding children to eat it may lead to them actually pursuing it, so it is essential to handle this with caution.
The development of healthy habits is one that should be taken on a step by step basis, and it is your duty as a parent to be patient and lead by example so your kids can see that you practice what you preach.
You can also use this opportunity to create healthy channels of communication between you and your child, explaining why you’re taking these decisions and providing positive feedback that encourages kids to question decisions and develop an independence of thought that would serve them well in the future.
